All About First Grade!!
Welcome
to a new school year! I am so excited to
get to know you and your child. This year is going to be full of fun and exciting
learning experiences that will create some wonderful memories.
I have put together the important
information that will help our year run smoothly.
Teacher
My name is
Alison Daugs. I am always available for my students and their families. You can contact me by calling the school at 435-563-6269,
emailing me at alison.daugs@ccsdut.org. Please, let me know of any questions or
concerns you may have. I look forward to
working with you and your child this year.
The goal is to have this years school experience be a positive and
important step in their educational future.
Newsletter
I will be
sending a weekly newsletter via E-MAIL to let you know how our week has gone and to give you any information for the
upcoming week. Please look for these in

Schedule
Curriculum
Reading
Group Instruction
We
will be using “Reading for All Learners” and Reading Mastery” as our primary
reading programs this year. We will
supplement guided reading and leveled readers as needed.
Math
We will be using the Go Math Program this year. This program helps students learn counting, addition, subtraction, time geometry and graphing.
We will also be involved with math timings, where students can progress at their own level as they master their addition facts.
Phonics
We
will spend time each day working on skills including sight words, high
frequency words, phonics and spelling.
We teach from the Saxon Phonics/Spelling program that supports our
reading programs. I will notify you when
we will start sending spelling lists home (around lesson 20). Lists for the whole year are included in your
back to school packet.
Homework
Homework
should be returned daily in you child’s homework folder. Homework includes a fluency/comprehension, spelling practice and of course reading! I would ask that you check your child's homework and initial each page at the top before returning it the following day.
Paper
and other communication from me and from the school will also be sent home in
these folders, so please check them every night.
Help your child form the good habit of remembering this folder each day.
Volunteers
We
LOVE volunteers in our classroom! You are welcome to sign up for a specific
time and day to help in our room or you can help with project preparation at
home. Also, if anyone has a special interest that would enrich our learning-
music, dance/movement, expertise in a particular field or subject—let
me know! I would love to incorporate
your talents and skills in any way I can.
Thank you!
Birthdays
We will celebrate birthdays in the classroom. If you would like to bring a treat to share with the class to celebrate, you may. I would ask that the treats are
not homemade, but come in some form of packaging. This will help with school policies and suggestions. Thank you! We will make sure that their day is special!
*Please do not pass out birthday
invitations at school unless the entire class is invited! For summer birthdays, we will celebrate
at the end of the year.
Class Rewards
Students
will be earning “DOJO Monster Points” throughout the year to collect and save. They will be rewarded with a prize every 25 points.
